Sylvanvale’s 70th Anniversary Chairman’s Dinner at NSW Parliament House on Wednesday 20 September was a night to remember.
The high profile event included a series of special presentations from His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d), Governor of New South Wales and Mrs Linda Hurley; The Honourable Gladys Berejiklian MP, Premier of New South Wales and The Honourable Scott Morrison MP, Treasurer of the Commonwealth of Australia. The evening was emceed by journalist Sandra Sully.
A particularly moving part of the night was when families and staff from Sylvanvale’s all abilities Mikarie Child Care Centre explained the difference that the centre makes to children’s and families’ lives.
Funds raised from the Chairman’s Dinner will purchase specialised early intervention equipment and pay for building modifications at Mikarie Child Care Centre. Earlier this year the centre created two new rooms dedicated to children with high needs, but because these new rooms weren’t part of Mikarie’s original design they are isolated from the rest of the Centre. The building modifications will remove walls that limit access and construct walkways that bring the centre together.
Other high profile guests at Wednesday’s event included Mr Lee Evans MP, State Member for Heathcote, who was hosting Member for the event; Mr Craig Kelly MP, Federal Member for Hughes, representing the Prime Minister; The Honourable Mark Speakman SC MP, Attorney General of New South Wales and State Member for Cronulla; The Honourable Linda Burney MP, Federal Member for Barton; Ms Sophie Cotsis, MP, State Member for Canterbury; Ms Eleni Petinos MP, State Member for Miranda; Councillor Carmelo Pesce, Mayor of Sutherland and Sutherland Shire Councillor Carol Provan.
Also in attendance were Sylvanvale’s Chairman Jeff McCarthy; Directors Robert Brown, John Slack and David Rafferty; Sylvanvale’s Chief Executive Officer Leanne Fretten; former Sylvanvale Chairman Lorna Stone AM, as well as Sylvanvale supporters, families and staff. A very generous group of individuals and businesses contributed to the event, including major sponsors Edmen Community Staff Solutions and Stewart Brown.
Our sincere thanks to everyone who attended, presented and gave so generously. Not only did this very special event celebrate Sylvanvale’s proud history, it helped to create an exciting future for children and families at Mikarie Child Care Centre.
