MEDIA RELEASE
Ownership of Sylvanvale Catering and Birdcage Café Changing to Civic
Disability services provider Sylvanvale Foundation has announced that ownership of its Sylvanvale Catering and Birdcage Café business is changing to Civic Disability Services on 1 September 2019. Civic is offering re-employment for the café and catering service’s supported employees, and Civic and Sylvanvale are working closely together to ensure the change has little or no impact on its customers.
Sylvanvale Catering and Birdcage Café is an award-winning profit-for-purpose business located at 35A Waratah Road, Engadine which provides supported employment to people with disability. Sylvanvale Catering supplies the Sutherland Shire and St George areas with savoury and sweet food for meetings, conferences, functions, parties and events.
Sylvanvale’s CEO Leanne Fretten said, “The transition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) combined with the unique operating challenges of a hospitality business have proven challenging. Following a year-long review of the business’ operations, Sylvanvale has made the difficult decision to move out of supported employment and focus on its core business being supporting people in Supported Independent Living and our Community Hubs.
“We are very excited that Civic will be continuing to operate the business and are confident that they will continue to provide an outstanding place to work for its supported employees, as well as a wonderful catering service and café,” she said.
Sylvanvale is proud to have operated this business for the past 22 years and would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported and been a part of it. Serving you, and working alongside the many people with disability who have trained and worked in this business has been a privilege,” said Leanne.
