Artists with Disability Raise Funds for Koalas

The Sylvanvale Art Collective has recently launched an exhibition at The Art Passage Gallery in Miranda. The theme of the special exhibition is ‘Talking without Words’, which explores the idea of ‘visual expression’ or talking through art. The exhibition of over 50 artworks includes nine artworks featuring koalas, with 100% of proceeds from the koala artworks going to the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital.

The Sylvanvale Art Collective comprises a group of artists with disability who have been learning and making art together for 11 years. Art has proved to be an empowering mode of expression for the artists and an opportunity to share their abilities with the community.

This is the artists’ second exhibition at the Art Passage Gallery, which is an artist run space dedicated to providing opportunity for artists at all levels of their careers. The gallery is supported by Crockers Paint & Wallpaper and the Crocker family, to give artists a professional gallery space to display their work without the added stress of exhibition fees.

Dominique Hindmarsh, the collective’s art teacher said, “Our artists chose to donate the proceeds from the koala paintings after being saddened by the devastation of the bushfires.”

“We are very proud of the artworks on display. Each artwork reflects the artist’s mood and personality, and tells a story,” said Dominique.

Sylvanvale’s CEO Leanne Fretten said, “We are grateful to the Crocker team for giving our artists the chance to showcase their works, who are in turn using the opportunity to support koalas. This is a great example of community spirit.”

The exhibition is on at The Art Passage Gallery, 1/206 Box Road, Miranda until Friday 15 February 2020. All artworks are for sale. Further details are available at www.sylvanvale.com.au or by calling 1300 244 677.
