Sylvanvale Foundation Commences Construction of Specialist Disability Accommodation in the Sutherland Shire

Friday 21 May 2021

Sylvanvale Foundation is delighted to announce the construction of six new residences for people with a disability in the Sutherland Shire.

Sutherland Shire Mayor, Councillor Steve Simpson, along with Sylvanvale’s Chairman, Jeff McCarthy, today turned the first sod for the build of six Specialist Disability Accommodation homes in Bangor.

The sod turning ceremony marked the beginning of construction on the multi-million dollar project, which will accommodate eight people living with disability across six properties, with unique dwellings and state-of-the-art accessibility. It will provide all residents with an abundance of open, private and carefully designed living spaces, which can be comfortably shared with their guests.

The homes will be built to accommodate people who require the highest level of accommodation, with Sylvanvale planning for the properties to be available to residents with a variety of support and funding requirements in the future.

The architecturally designed homes, designed by award-winning architect Vic Lake, will be constructed by local builder Vista Build. Vista Build won the right to develop the site in a detailed tender process, and is working closely with the Sylvanvale team to ensure each detail is thoughtfully executed for the future residents.

“There is high demand and an unmet need for this level of Specialist Disability Accommodation in the Sutherland Shire,” Chairman Jeff McCarthy said.

“These homes will set a new standard, giving people living with disability more unique, luxury home options, allowing them to live as they choose.”

Sylvanvale is planning on further projects in the Sutherland Shire to cater for people with a disability.

“With the support of Sutherland Shire Council and our partners we are confident of extending this model and creating better accommodation options for people with a disability,” Mr McCarthy said.

Construction is expected to be completed by the end of March next year, with participants moving in by June 2022.
