Sylvanvale Social and Community, formerly known as the ‘Adventurer’s Club’ or ‘MPC’, is a program where people with disability participate in a variety of exciting activities in the community each week.
The program provides an opportunity for participants to make new friends and be part of the community, promoting social connections and encouraging inclusion.
More opportunities to get out in the community
With growing interest and demand for social outings and activities, the program is increasing its days this year from twice a week to 5 days each week. Each day focuses on a particular type of social experience, so there is something for everyone.
Chill Monday: A relaxed day of trips to a park or beach for a picnic or barbecue
Xperience Tuesday: Outings to galleries, museums and other places of interest
See The Sights Wednesday: Fun experiences such as bowling and laser tag
Out For Lunch Thursday: Enjoy a bite to eat at local clubs and restaurants
Big Bang Friday: Visit iconic landmarks like Bondi Beach, the Manly ferry, and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
While the focus is on fun, participants are also supported to achieve their individual goals such as travel training, money handling and cooking.
The group’s newest member is Jenny. Although Jenny is new to the club, she has been with Sylvanvale for many years. Jenny recently took the time to tell us what she thinks about the club.
Why did you choose to join Sylvanvale Social and Community?
“I love train travel, exploring and going out with my friends.”
What types of things have you done since you joined the social group?
“I went to the beach. I had hot chocolate with marshmallows. I went to the movies and to op shops looking for music and treasures.”
What’s been your favourite activity with the social group so far?
“Train travelling into the city.”
What do you think about Sylvanvale Social and Community?
“I love, love, love it; It makes me so happy inside. I’m just a happy little vegemite.”
