🎉 Celebrating Josie: A Journey of Belonging, Choice & Joy at Sylvanvale

Josie's birthday

This past April, we had the absolute pleasure of celebrating a truly special milestone for one of Sylvanvale’s most cherished residents—Josephine Stoney, affectionately known as Josie!

Josie’s journey with Sylvanvale began back in 2012, when she moved from Raynton House to her home at Cascade. Her move was part of a broader initiative supported by  Sylvanvale, the Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care, and a dedicated group of local community champions. Together, they helped 17 individuals from the former Eldon Boarding House transition into new homes where they could feel safe, supported, and truly at home. Josie was one of those lucky stars—and she’s been enjoying living at Cascade ever since.

On April 1st, the Cascade team came together to celebrate Josie’s 90th birthday with a heartfelt celebration full of laughter, love, and cake! It was a beautiful day that honoured not just Josie’s incredible life, but also the joy and warmth she brings to everyone around her.

Josie’s story is a shining example of what Sylvanvale is all about:

  • Belonging – creating spaces where people feel part of a community.
  • Choice – supporting individuals to live life on their own terms.
  • Safety & Wellbeing – ensuring every person feels secure, respected, and valued.

Over the years, Josie has become more than a resident—she’s family. Her resilience, humour, and kindness light up Cascade, and her journey reminds us why we do what we do.

So here’s to Josie—90 years young and still inspiring us all. 🥳 Let’s raise a belated cheer to a life well-lived and a future full of love, laughter, and continued adventures.

Happy 90th Birthday, Josie! 💖
